Another rare Mitzvah

Recently (erev Pesach) we had the rare Mitzvah of Bircat Hachama (which incidentally, will not be on erev Pesach again for more than 10,000 years).

Another rare Mitzvah was recently performed in Melbourne.  Straight from our “you can’t be serious” file, and with a hint of “well, we don’t have a charedi community in Perth” sentimental relief, we present you with Pidyon Peter Chamor.  This rare ceremony of redeeming a firstborn male donkey (Exodus 13:13) was performed in Melbourne on Sunday 3rd May 2009:

How did they get those animals to stay so still?

Update:  Some more information about this event, starring Peter the Donkey, can be found here.
