Headline Bias

For the past week I have been recording every breaking news headline on the Australian news website www.news.com.au

The list is pasted below.  Those headlines shaded in orange are critical of Israel or portray Israel as the aggressor in this conflict.  Those in green are supportive of Israel, and the white are neutral. 

The result:  Only 13% of the headlines show Israel’s side of the story.  So much for balanced or even handed reporting.  No headlines about human shields.  Only one headline about bombs landing in Israel.  No headlines about the suffering of a million Israeli’s who get directed to bomb shelters, have schools closed, and send their children to the army to combat terrorism. 

The media are full of self righteous indignation when they get accused of media bias.  The facts speak for themselves, but unfortunately they do not always get reported!
