New Leadership for the Libs

The Australian Jewish news have an article about new Liberal leader Brendan Nelson. 

This is an example of very good journalism.  The background given is well researched, and it was insightful of the paper to note that ” Nelson overcame a strong challenge from Turnbull – the MO in Australia’s most Jewish seat – in part because he made a deal with Western Australian MP’s, media have reported.”

This is spot on.  The deal broker was Barry Hasse, and the objective was to get Julie Bishop in as deputy.  For the first time in 50 years the Liberals do not have a Victorian in their leadership.  The only questions now are how long the Nelson-Bishop team will hold, and whether by the time Liberal becomes Government it will be a Turnbull-Bishop ticket?
